The drama "Prelude to a Kiss" comes to the stage this weekend at Kensington Woods High School, on the campus of Cleary University, 3700 Cleary Drive in Genoa Township.

The story is based on a 1988 play written by Craig Lucas and was adapted for a movie released in 1992 that starred Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin.

After a young couple weds, an elderly man asks to kiss the bride. At the moment of the kiss, the souls of the bride and elderly man supernaturally exchange bodies. Neither the groom or any of the wedding guests understand what has transpired. The groom later realizes what's happened and knows he must search for the old man to keep the love he has for his true bride alive, in spite of the body she inhabits.

This is only the second production for the Kensington Woods theater program. The first was the school's spring production of "The Nerd."

"My co-director, Jason Pratt, and I came together last January and created the KWHS drama club," said Elissa Patterson, theater program director at the school. "We held a two-month drama club boot camp, to say the least, giving the students the basic knowledge of stage technique. We then held auditions for 'The Nerd.'"

Patterson said that "The Nerd" was a great success and was the determining factor in seeing if the high school had what it takes to continue the program.

" 'Prelude to a Kiss' was selected to show the acting abilities of our students," said Patterson. " With 'The Nerd,' we had the students learn comedic timing. This show is much more of an acting dramatic presentation."

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A matinee performance will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Advance tickets are $7 and can be purchased by e-mailing dramaclub@kwoods.org or by calling (517) 545-0828. Tickets are also available at the door.
