8th Grade Experience Day: Try High School On for Size at KWoods
Most families don’t pick a high school just off a website. Usually, they go by location or reputation, but Kensington Woods’ (KWoods) 8th Grade Experience Day offers a new choice. This event is our annual, zero-fluff, full-throttle preview of real high school life. It isn’t a tour where you stare at bulletin boards and nod politely. We let families step inside and experience it.
You walk the halls. Sit in classes. Ask unexpected, honest questions brochures sometimes don’t answer. All participants will have KWoods Leadership students as their guides.
Here’s what’s to expect on KWoods’ 8th Grade Experience Day:
1. A Tour With Students, Not Staff.
You’ll get a walking tour from someone who is living it. The schedule, the teachers, the weird vending machine. Nothing is sugarcoated. This student to student perspective makes all the difference.
2. Shadow Classes. No Bystanders.
You’ll get the chance to drop into real high school classes, both core and elective, and do the work. You might find yourself solving a logic puzzle, sketching out a logo, or debating a current event. It depends where you land. That’s the point.
3. Hands-On Moments. You will participate in hands-on activities focused on developing the thinking and 21st century skills needed in high school and beyond.
4. A No-Filter Q&A.
The “Finding Success in High School” session is a dynamic Q&A opportunity. Want to know how hard the homework is? Ask. How fast can you make friends? No problem. Just ask.
5. Lunch With Existing Students.
Lunch is free, but it’s not the highlight. The win is who you sit with: current students. This allows you to have relaxed conversations. The kind where you find out if this place fits.
6. A Guide Who Has Your Back.
You’ll be paired with a KWoods Leadership student for the whole day. They’ll walk with you, answer your questions in a low-pressure way.
The dates are still in the works, but it’s coming this fall or winter. Stay tuned for more information. Also, it’s not too late to transfer/enroll. KWoods proudly serves grades 6-12 and welcome new students! Enroll now for 2025-2026!
