Five Livingston County students were among 38 who received the 2009 Congressional Medal of Merit in a ceremony at the state Capitol in Lansing today. Students included: Casey Baldus of Fowlerville High School, Nina Clark of Pinckney Community High School, Krystina McCollum of Hartland High School, Heather Moule of Kensington Woods High School and Elisa Taylor of Brighton High School.
The graduating seniors were nominated by their schools for the medal based on criteria set by U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Howell, that includes exemplary citizenship and academic excellence throughout their high school careers.
All 48 schools in the 8th Congressional District are invited to participate.
"All of these graduates have demonstrated an outstanding sense of service to their peers, education and community," Rogers said. "Honoring their achievements with the Congressional Medal of Merit is a privilege. I congratulate each of them and their parents, families, teachers and community."
