The American Mathematics Competition (AMC)
On Wednesday, February 25th, 2009, fifteen advanced math students at KWHS participated in the American Mathematics Contest 12 (AMC 12). The AMC 12 is a 25 question, 75 minute multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with advanced Algebraic concepts. This is a national contest which takes place in many schools across the country on a specified date. It is a way to recognize and reward excellence in mathematics by exposing students to challenging problems which require creative thinking. Our school results are listed below.

Recognition for being the top finisher in the school for two consecutive years in the AMC 12 contest!
AIME Qualifier- Dan Smith
With a score of 108, Dan was invited to participate in the "American Invitational Mathematics Examination", which represents the next level of competition. This challenging, three hour exam took place on Tuesday, March 17th. Congratulations, Dan!

Honors Abound at Graduation
For 2008 Kensington Woods High School graduates, scholarships and awards were in no short supply. Many scholarships were awarded to graduates to further their education, including the Don Weiland Scholarship, given to Jacob Stephen for tuition at Cleary University. Scott Schmitt and Eric Stants also received Presidential Scholarships from Michigan Technological University. Students were also awarded individual awards at graduation, including Best Achievement in Math (Alisha Gutherie), Best Achievement in Science (Amber Hamlin), Best Achievement in English (Jay Gary), Best Achievement in Social Studies (Joel Smith) and Best Achievement in Technology (Scott Schmitt). Eric Stants was awarded the Kensington Woods Leadership Award and the Congressional Medal of Merit. Valedictorian and Salutatorian honors were awarded to Scott Schmitt and Jacob Stephen, respectively.

And The Winners Are…Students Receive Award
for Web Design
Kensington students Dan Smith and Scott Schmitt placed third in the College of Engineering and Computer Science web design competition at the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The contest, in engineering, computer programming, and web design, was open to juniors and seniors in southeast Michigan. Dan and Scott’s web design was evaluated on usability, accessibility, graphic layout, accuracy, creativity, and completeness. Congratulations Dan and Scott!
